“I believe that education, therefore, is a process of living, and not a preparation for future living.” - John Dewey

Life is to be lived, including from age five to age twenty-two. There is nothing inherent to the nature of school that says it has to be stressful, anxiety-inducing, demoralizing, and dehumanizing for both students and teachers, and yet this is the reality too many experience.

Our name, “Engaged Education” is meant to embodied two core principles:

  1. We believe that the first requirement for learning is engagement. Engagement can come in a lot of different forms, but if it is not present, learning likely isn’t happening.

  2. What happens in education spaces requires engagement across all the various stakeholders that intersect with those spaces: students, teachers parents, administrators, the public, the government, and on and on and on.

We firmly believe that the interests of all these groups are more aligned than they are at odds. Through engagement we can navigate the challenges facing our systems of education.
